Colin Hanson-New

I have over 40 years’ experience in manufacturing and supply chain having been employed in global companies such as GKN, Alstom, AREVA, Schneider Electric, Massey Ferguson and the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS). I have striven to constantly develop my skills and knowledge around the development and implementation of improvement projects designed to enhance the profitability of companies.

On a professional basis, I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) and hold the level of MCIPS Chartered Procurement and Supply Professional and I am also a CIPS Examination Assessor.

During my time with MAS as a Manufacturing Consultant, I assisted a number of organisations in developing and improving their manufacturing and supply chain/purchasing functions in order to help them succeed in meeting their corporate strategic objectives.

For the last 3 years, I have been employed as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Derby  delivering a number of modules on the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) professional qualification course at levels 4, 5 and 6.

I have worked with a number of organisations at a strategic level to design and implement business strategies. Supporting the development of a culture of innovation, helping businesses generate new product ideas and market opportunities, reduce waste to maximise productivity and profitability in their business.

Projects undertaken include (but not an extensive list):

  • Lean Manufacturing project which lead to an increase in productivity of 41% and a reduction in manufacturing costs of 78%.
  • Factory re-layout which improved productivity and efficiency by 38% and allowed an improvement in delivery time to customers of 6 days.
  • A supply chain project which required the development of their supply chain function including project managing several high value tender projects for key items delivering (on average) 25% in cost savings.
  • Project managed and coordinated to deliver with several business support organisations to help a client secure new larger premises, arranged an £250,000 of capital grant for a new machine which lead to the creation of 12 jobs.

I am dedicated to the support and development of businesses in all sectors by offering business owners and directors a one-stop shop of practical guidance, training and useful tools to help sustain a company’s growth into the future.
